Transportation

You have access to adequate transportation. This could be a personal vehicle; a regular or electric bicycle, motorcycle, or scooter; and/or accessible and affordable public transportation to get where you need to go when you need to.

Barriers

  • Expense of owning a vehicle
  • Expense of purchasing a mode of transportation
  • Public transit only runs from May – September
  • Cost of ferry
  • Limited schedule for bus across Denman
  • Denman bus does not line up with the ferries that meet the city bus to Courtenay
  • Unable to drive for any reason
  • No electricity for e-bike or scooter
  • Fuel is more expensive on-island than off

Community Vision

Hornby Island no longer participates in the global petroleum economy.

We are forerunners in the use of renewable energy sources for transportation. We use Canadian-made and environmentally friendly fuels to power our vehicles and have significantly reduced our use of individual motorized vehicles.1
