Repercussions
The ramifications of living in a low-income household are varied and long-lasting. Those living in low-income households are more likely to suffer chronic poor health due to poor living conditions and inadequate nutrition; poor mental health due to stigmatization and constant struggle; low education outcomes due to lack of access to the necessary technology and limited reading, discussion, and homework time (caregivers too busy/ tired from work to help with homework or even just read. Literacy is a luxury); lack of childcare; and a lack of job opportunities due to no/unreliable transportation or communication technology.1
Low Income refers to individuals or households that fall below a specified income level for the prior year.
